What's The Deal With Konami ID?

I used to be a real hard core gamer back in the days of D&D and the like, but lately, running a big business, I haven't had the time to check out the latest and greatest. But with all the buzz about Konami ID, I just had to see what all the fuss is about. Well, for those of you who have no clue what the deal is, I'm going to give you the five cent tour. Hopefully, from this article, you'll be able to decide if this is something you want to get into or not.

Actually, Konami ID isn't a game in itself. It's a service where you basically get an ID that you can use for many games across the Konami products line. It's one ID for all which basically saves you the hassle of having to get a separate ID for each game. If you're a hard core gamer, meaning you're into a lot of this stuff, this is probably something that you'll want to look into.

Now, the big game today, that you'll be able to access with your Konami ID is Metal Gear Online. Just so you know, your PSN name isn't going to work with MGO so that's why you're going to have to get a Konami ID in order to play it. Pretty sneaky if you ask me, but hey, it's business. What can I tell you? Anything for a buck these days. Pretty soon you're going to have to get a retina scan to play these games. Okay, I'm a little cynical but I've been around and have very good reasons to be.

Anywhere here's the deal. You have to sign up for two IDs. That's right...two. The one ID is for access to all the wonderful Konami products and services. The other ID is your game ID that you will use to play whatever game you like. So make sure you get them both or you're out of luck. The reason I think they're doing this is to crack down on cheaters. After all, the more IDs you need to get in, the harder it is for somebody to cheat. Not a bad idea, even if it is a little annoying for the legit gamers.

As for Metal Gear Online, well, this is going to be big. The beta is scheduled to be released for download April 17. These downloads will be open to everybody who wants to download it until May 6. So if you're really eager to see what the deal is, jump on this quick because I have a feeling that bandwidth on these servers is going to be stretched to the max and getting your download WON'T be easy.

Now, if only I had the time to play games again.

Sigh.

Sincerely,

Steven Wagenheim
